New Delhi: Ahead of his meeting with Elon Musk, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said investment from across the world is welcome but it should create jobs for Indians.

“I want investment to come to India because in India it does not matter who invests the money, (but) the sweat put into the work should be of our own people. The product should have the essence of our soil, so that our youth Will get employment opportunities,” while responding to a question on the possible entry of Tesla and Starlink.

He also said that India is moving fast on EVs and sought investment from companies. “We have told the world that India is moving very fast on EVs. If you want to do manufacturing, you should come.” Modi had met Musk in the US last year and the PM recalled his visit to the Tesla factory in 2015.

When asked when Musk had told him when he met Modi in the US that he was a fan of the Indian PM, Modi said, “Look, the first thing to say that Elon Musk is a supporter of Modi is one thing. Basically, he is a supporter of India. I just went to see his factory in 2015 and I visited him in 2023. ) and met him again and now he is going to come to India.

Musk is expected to have another meeting with Modi in India later this month and discuss Tesla’s production strategy following the government’s decision to reduce import duty on electric cars to 15% for companies producing in India. There is widespread anticipation of the unveiling.

Outlining the growth in India’s EV sector, Modi pointed out how sales of electric vehicles are expected to grow from 2,000 in 2014-15 to 12 lakh in 2023-24. The PM said, “In 2023-24, not 2,000 units but 12 lakh units were sold. This means that such a large network of charging stations has been created. This has helped the environment and we have made policies regarding it.

In a clear message to Elon Musk’s Tesla, Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport and Highways, has said that the company will get “concessions only if it manufactures locally in India”.

He said, “…but if you make it in China and want to sell in India, there is no concession policy available.”

Tesla is seeking concessions from the Indian government to help it sell its cars at competitive prices in the Indian market.

The Indian government is reportedly considering a policy framework aimed at high-end, technologically advanced automakers like Tesla. The framework is designed to promote domestic manufacturing, including local sourcing, and a reduction in import duties on fully manufactured units during the initial years, reports The Times of India.

The plan includes a substantial cut in import duty on electric vehicles, potentially as low as 15% compared to the current peak of 100%. However, this reduction will be dependent on the commitment by carmakers to start manufacturing operations in India, increase local component sourcing and provide bank guarantees to cover any default on their commitments, it is reported.

The government reportedly wants a firm commitment from companies to set up a supplier ecosystem, with the aim of sourcing around 20% of parts locally within the first two years, which will eventually increase to 40% by the fourth year.

The bank guarantee will be commensurate with the value of import duty reduction provided to the companies for bringing in their vehicles at concessional rates. The measure will serve as a safeguard if companies fail to meet their commitments regarding local manufacturing and investment, the report said.

If this policy is implemented, it will provide substantial benefits to companies like Tesla, BMW and Audi, allowing them to enter the promising Indian market with their electric vehicles while test-marketing their imported models.

Elon Musk, the man behind SpaceX and Tesla, is once again making headlines. This time, it is not about some new venture but about an entertaining offering to Wikipedia. Musk, known for his regular posts on Twitter, made an unusual proposal. He said he would give Wikipedia a whopping $1 billion, but there was a catch: He had to change its name to “Dikipedia”. Musk, known for his cheeky humor, claimed it was all in the name of accuracy.

As you can imagine, this caught the attention of Twitter users around the world. One user encouraged Wikipedia to do this, and Musk added another twist. He said they would have to keep the name for at least a year, and cheekily remarked, “I mean, I’m not stupid.”

Musk also shared a screenshot of Wikipedia’s homepage, where it read, “Wikipedia is not for sale” and displayed “A personal appeal from Jimmy Wales.” He questioned why the Wikimedia Foundation needed so much money when the entire text of Wikipedia could fit on a smartphone. He left a humorous request to add it to his Wikipedia page.

Additionally, Musk asked if cow and feces emojis could be added to his Wikipedia page. This playful joke gained massive attention on Twitter with millions of views and likes.

Some Twitter users were cautious, noting that Wikipedia frequently asks for donations, so they may indeed be attempting to collect billions of dollars. Others found the entire situation amusing and compared it to a “cage match challenge”. Suggestions were made to buy Wikipedia and let AI take over the updates, and some mocked Musk’s typical “rich guy” move.

In a previous incident, Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales criticized Musk for censoring critics of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan just before a crucial election. Musk had complied with Turkey’s demands to restrict the content, which did not sit well with Wells. He pointed out that Wikipedia had faced a similar situation, but had protected freedom of expression, even going to the Turkish Supreme Court to protect it.

Musk’s response was, “The alternative is to shut down Twitter entirely or limit access to certain tweets. Which do you want?”

It is important to note that Wikipedia was blocked in Turkey for more than two years due to the country’s regulations allowing the banning of sites deemed obscene or a threat to national security.

Days after a Tesla team visited India, the company’s founder and CEO Elon Musk has indicated that India is on the electric carmaker’s radar for setting up a new factory.

In an interview to The Wall Street Journal, Musk said that the electric carmaker would select a new location for a new factory by the end of this year, and added that India could be an interesting proposition for such an expansion.

Asked what would be the most exciting country to build a Tesla plant right now, Musk said, “We announced that Mexico would be our next location outside the US. We’ll probably choose another location later this year.” “

Asked whether India would be an “interesting” contender for the move, he said, “Absolutely.”

Musk’s words, while being noncommittal on India, set off speculation that the electric carmaker might finally be seriously looking at the country, especially after he has previously talked about launching his cars here, complaining of “challenges” and high cost. expressed a wish. import duty in doing so.

Tesla’s team visit just a week ago has only strengthened the buzz, which is getting credence even as the government is also open to bringing the company to India. Earlier, the company had sought a reduction in import duty to ship the cars to the country on a trial basis.

Last week, Minister of State for IT and Electronics Rajeev Chandrasekhar told TOI that officials at Tesla’s headquarters held a meeting with some wings of the government, where they were encouraged to consider investing here.

He said, ‘Yes, he had meetings with the government. We have told them that we would like to see them invest in India and will work with them as they set up their plants here. “We told them that India is now a reliable destination for all players in the supply chain of electronics and electric vehicles.”

Tesla had done a detailed market research about bringing its cars to India about two years ago, but decided not to pursue the matter last year after failing to get any special incentives from the government.

The company had been seeking concessions on import duty to directly introduce its cars in the country, but the government refused to play ball, citing the example of others like Mercedes-Benz, Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra, which are local manufacturers. Making greens at the level.

The government was also concerned over Tesla due to reports that the company may import cars from its China factory, which is seen as a no-go zone due to rising tensions.

Currently, India imposes a 100% duty on imports of fully built cars with a CIF (cost, insurance and freight) value of more than $40,000 and a 60% duty on cars costing less than that amount.

It’s no secret that Elon Musk also owns companies like Tesla, SpaceX, and Twitter, which he recently bought for around $44 billion. But, did you know that he is also the boss of a neural interface technology company called Neuralink? Yes, you read it right.

You must be wondering why everyone is talking about it right now. Well, Musk has announced that his company has manufactured a chip that can be embedded in a person’s brain to help people with disabilities. Interestingly, the billionaire also claimed that the chip would be implanted in his brain during a demo. But, what is it and how does it work? Keep reading to know more.

It is an artificial intelligence-powered microchip that can read and record brain activity. It can be used to help disabled people move or communicate properly and for other things. Interestingly, the chip would allow anyone to “use a smartphone with their brain better than someone with paralysis who uses their thumb,” which is what Musk said back in 2016.

Neuralink Chip: How Does It Work?

This is a very small chip that is surgically implanted in a person’s brain. It consists of lots of tiny wires, and each wire is reportedly 20 times thinner than a human hair. These wires, which extend into a person’s brain, are equipped with 1,024 electrodes to monitor brain activity and electrically stimulate the brain. The registered data can be transmitted wirelessly through the chip to computers, which researchers can use for further study.

Neuralink Chip: What Will It Do?

The company has reportedly claimed that the chip can read your thoughts and even let you talk to machines without opening your mouth. Currently, the chip is said to allow people to control basic devices such as smartphones and computers.

“We want to be extremely careful and certain that this device will work well before we put it into a human,” Musk said during a highly anticipated public update on the device.

The company has been working on this technology for a long time and has tried it on animals as well. The Neuralink chip has been successfully implanted in monkey and pig brains. The company announced today that it aims to begin human testing of a brain chip in about six months.

The firm has claimed that its latest technology can cure paralysis, blindness, memory loss and other neurological diseases. It could reportedly enable “superhuman vision” or give people the ability to communicate with machines.

Can this chip be removed? Is it safe?

Earlier this year, the company claimed that it had made several successful attempts and that it was safe to implant in someone’s brain to cure diseases.

The inverter claims to be 94 percent more efficient than the transformer-based inverters available in the market. The device is IoT compatible and can be controlled easily using a smartphone.

The inverter is fabricated using pure copper wiring and is powered by using LiPo4 batteries with high quality cells. Not only is it compatible with solar charging capabilities, but it can also be used to charge electric vehicles. The company promises 15 years of battery life as well as a five-year replaceable guarantee.

ER Ashutosh Verma, founder of OxyNeuron, with a career spanning over 14 years, has worked with several government and non-government organizations in industries like hydrology, cyber security, clean energy, AI, robotics, forensics, etc.

He said in a statement, “The Lipon Inverter is a new and innovative device that helps to store electricity and reduce the carbon footprint to astronomical levels. Such innovations are the need of the hour especially in rural India. Needs more attention. Magic inverter is expected to solve the issue of power backup in rural India.”

He said, “It is capable of revolutionizing the industry in future. We have received the first order of Magic Box Inverter from Tesla India. Government support for start-ups and such innovations is a boost for our start-ups to grow and develop with more and more innovative products which are of great help to the public at large.

Tesla India was in the news recently when it requested the government to reduce import tax before bringing its popular electric vehicles to the Indian market. According to sources in a conversation with Reuters, Tesla India has contacted PM Narendra Modi’s office to discuss plans to sell their vehicles in India.

As of now, India imposes an import duty of 60 percent on electric vehicles costing $40,000 or less and 100 percent on vehicles priced above. At These Prices, Tesla Cars Won’t Be That Cheap Anymore

However, government officials were divided with the decision to offer the Ease, as there are several Indian carmakers who are already trying their best to make a mark across the country like Tata, Mahindra as well as other EV makers. who are making their own vehicles. India. Facilitating Tesla won’t contribute to boost domestic EV production.

Tesla has asked India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s office to cut import taxes before electric cars enter the market, four sources from some Indian automakers told Reuters. He quickly raised the demands he faced.

Tesla wants to start selling imported cars in India this year, but says India’s taxes are among the highest in the world. Reuters’ first report requesting a tax cut in July prompted protests from some local players that such a move would discourage investment in domestic manufacturing.

Tesla executives, including India’s policy maker Manuji Crana, in a private meeting last month accepted the company’s request from Modi’s executives and claimed the taxes were too high, elaborating the argument from four sources. The source said.

In a meeting at Modi’s office, Tesla said India’s duty structure would not make its business in India a “viable proposition”, according to a source.

India imposes a 60% import tax on electric vehicles below $40,000 and a 100% tariff on electric vehicles above $40,000. Analysts say Tesla cars at these rates could be too expensive for buyers and limit their sales.

Tesla also submitted a separate request for a meeting between its CEO Elon Musk and Modi, three sources said.

Modi’s office, Tesla, and its executive Klana did not respond to requests for comment.

It’s not clear what Modi’s office specifically told Tesla in response, but four sources said Reuters officials were divided on the demands from US automakers. Some executives want the company to commit to local manufacturing before considering import tax cuts.

The government also has a huge bearing on the impact on the local auto industry, sources said.

Indian companies such as Tata Motors, which recently raised $1 billion from investors including TPG to ramp up EV production locally, said concessioning Tesla would go against India’s plan to increase domestic EV production.

“If Tesla was the only EV maker, reducing the obligations would have worked, but there are others,” said a source with direct knowledge of the government’s views.

The transport minister said this month that Tesla should not sell Chinese-made cars in India, but instead manufacture them locally, but Tesla said it would like to test imported cars first.

“If Tesla succeeds in imported cars, it is very likely to have a factory in India,” Musk said on Twitter in July.

The Indian market for premium EVs is still in its infancy and the charging infrastructure is lacking. Of the 2.4 million cars sold in India last year, only 5,000 were electric cars.

A government official said easing Tesla’s limited-time obligations to pave the way for entry would attract more investment, while at the same time building an “Indian investor-friendly image and environment-friendly credit. It was “enhanced” can go.
