PAN 2.0: The Income Tax Department has launched PAN 2.0 to improve the efficiency of allocating and maintaining Permanent Account Numbers (PAN). The initiative is designed to enhance convenience and security by providing e-PAN cards with QR codes to applicants’ registered email IDs at no charge. Physical PAN cards require a nominal fee. It is important to note that existing PAN cards will remain valid even without the QR code.

The PAN 2.0 project is an e-governance project of the Income Tax Department aimed at reengineering business processes related to taxpayer registration services. The project aims to improve the quality of PAN services by incorporating the latest technology.

As part of this project, the ITD is consolidating all processes related to PAN allotment, update and correction. TAN-related services are also being merged into this project. In addition, online PAN verification services will be provided to user agencies such as financial institutions, banks, government agencies, central and state government departments, etc.

Discovering PAN 2.0 and navigating the process of applying for and receiving your PAN card electronically is explained in detail below. Here is an easy step-by-step guide on how to apply for PAN 2.0 online and receive it directly on your email ID.

To begin with, find out if your PAN was issued by NSDL or UTI Infrastructure Technology and Services Limited (UTIITSL). This essential information can be found on the back of your PAN card.

The steps to apply for e-PAN through NSDL are as follows:

Correction in PAN Card

Current PAN holders have the option to update or correct their existing PAN details, such as email, mobile number, address, name and date of birth, at no additional cost. Until the release of the PAN 2.0 project, PAN holders can use an advertisement-based online service to update their email, mobile number and address by accessing the following URL:

Visit the NSDL e-PAN portal at https://www.onlineservices.nsdl.com/paam/requestAndDownloadEPAN.html.

Enter your PAN, Aadhaar card details (for individuals), and date of birth.

Review your details and choose your preferred method of receiving one-time password (OTP). Enter the OTP within 10 minutes to continue.

This service is free for up to three requests within 30 days of PAN issuance. Subsequent requests cost Rs 8.26, inclusive of GST.

After successful payment, e-PAN will be sent to your registered email ID within 30 minutes.

i. https://www.onlineservices.nsdl.com/paam/endUserAddressUpdate.html

ii. https://www.pan.utiitsl.com/PAN_ONLINE/homeaddresschange

For any other update or correction in PAN details, holders can continue to use the current process by visiting physical centers or applying online by paying a fee.

Documents required to apply

For a smooth process, prepare the following documents in advance:

Proof of identity: Aadhaar, passport, driving license or voter ID.

Proof of address: Bank statement, rental agreement or utility bill.

Proof of date of birth: Birth certificate, school leaving certificate or passport.

Key features of PAN 2.0

The PAN 2.0 project aims to revolutionize taxpayer registration services through technology-driven advancements to enhance accessibility and service efficiency.

The project aims to establish PAN as the primary source of accurate data, ensuring consistency and security while optimizing infrastructure to enhance flexibility.

The PAN 2.0 project will centralize all PAN/TAN related services on a unified portal managed by the ITD.

One of its key features is the integration of QR code on the PAN card.

This enables fast and reliable digital verification, simplifying the process of identity authentication for both individuals and businesses.

Role of QR Code

Improved Security: The QR code implemented in the PAN 2.0 project enhances security measures by increasing the difficulty of copying or tampering the card. The encrypted data within the code can only be accessed by authorized software, reducing the possibility of fraudulent activities.

Efficient Identity Verification: The QR code facilitates fast and accurate identity verification, reducing the risk of impersonation and reducing errors in financial transactions.

Assured Data Accuracy: By transitioning to the new PAN card, users can be sure that their information is current and compliant with the latest government regulations. This commitment promotes a more secure financial landscape and prevents potential misuse of personal data.

The Central government has provided VIP security cover, including armed commandos, to BJP’s Lok Sabha election candidate from Hyderabad Madhavi Latha in view of possible security threats against her, official sources said on Monday.

The 49-year-old politician has been given a mid-tier ‘Y Plus’ category mobile security cover during his stay and tours in Telangana.

Sources said that the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) VIP Security Wing has taken over the responsibility of the task assigned by the Union Home Ministry.

A classical dancer and an entrepreneur, Lata is set to take on sitting Hyderabad MP and AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi in his stronghold in the May 13 general elections.

A threat perception report prepared by central intelligence and security agencies recommended security cover for Lata, following which the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) approved the security, sources said.

Under the ‘Y Plus’ security protocol, a squad of four to five armed personnel will remain with Lata round the clock.

The classification of VIP protection cover starts from the highest Z Plus followed by Z, Y Plus, Y and X.
The Hyderabad constituency, which includes the old city of Hyderabad with a predominantly Muslim population, has been an AIMIM stronghold.

Asaduddin Owaisi has won from this constituency four times since 2004.

Before him, his father Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi had represented Hyderabad in the Lok Sabha for six consecutive terms between 1984 and 2004.

Now, according to sources who spoke on anonymity to The Wall Street Journal, Mark Zuckerberg told Facebook staff ‘we need to inflict pain’ on Apple in 2018.

Apparently, the escalation between Facebook and Apple started ticking when Apple CEO Tim Cook gave a TV interview in the midst of Cambridge Analytica that spared the great privacy debate at large. During the interview, Cook said that Apple would never have found itself in the same position as Facebook.

Zuckerberg hit back Cook, calling Cook’s comments about Facebook “extremely glib. In private, Zuckerberg was even harsher. According to the Journal, the CEO of the world”s most popular social media company reportedly told his team that ‘we need to inflict pain’ for treating his company so poorly.

Apple CEO Tim Cook attributed slower sales in China in part to the devaluation of the yuan.

The report comes at a time when Facebook and Apple are on the verge of a legal war. Last month, Apple said it was planning to introduce a new feature in iOS that will stop apps like Facebook from tracking user data for ads on iPhone. In response, Facebook said recent changes to iOS 14 could destroy its advertising business. Facebook also sees this move as an abuse of market power.

In recent days, the news of Facebook getting readying an antitrust lawsuit against Apple has only increased. As per The Information, the lawsuit alleges that Apple abused its market power by forcing third-party developers, including Facebook, to follow a different set of rules that Apple’s own apps aren’t required to follow. It’s not clear if Facebook will proceed with the lawsuit but it does show that the company is serious about a legal battle with Apple.
