According to an official statement, the Yogi Adityanath-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Uttar Pradesh has ‘gunned down’ 289 dreaded criminals in police encounters over the last nine years. So far, in the first five months of 2026, the police have killed 23 alleged criminals in encounters.

The statement notes that since 2017—when Yogi Adityanath first became Chief Minister—the police have conducted 17,043 encounter operations and arrested 34,253 criminals. The statement further adds that, under the government’s ‘zero-tolerance’ policy, 11,834 criminals were injured during these encounters.

According to government data, 17,043 encounters over nine years translate to an average of five encounters taking place every day in Uttar Pradesh.

Following the BJP’s resounding victory, Yogi Adityanath took the oath as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh on March 19, 2017. The BJP secured another victory in 2021, and Adityanath was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for a second term.

The statement reveals that during this period, 18 police personnel were martyred, and 1,852 were injured.

Meerut in Western Uttar Pradesh Tops the List for Encounters

The highest number of encounters were recorded in the Meerut zone, where the police conducted 4,813 operations. During these operations, 8,921 criminals were arrested, while 3,513 criminals sustained injuries. Additionally, 97 notorious criminals were killed on the spot.

During encounter operations in the Meerut zone, 477 police personnel were injured, while two police personnel were martyred in the line of duty. In terms of the volume of encounter operations, the Meerut zone ranked first across the entire state. According to the statement, 1,292 encounters took place in the Varanasi Zone, resulting in the arrest of 2,426 criminals, while 29 criminals were killed during these encounters. During this period, 907 criminals and 104 police personnel sustained injuries. In terms of the number of encounter operations, the Agra Zone ranks third across the entire state. Here, 2,494 encounter operations were conducted, leading to the arrest of 5,845 criminals. During these operations, 968 criminals were injured, while 24 were killed. A total of 62 police personnel were injured during these encounters.

According to the encounter statistics, 21 dreaded criminals were killed during 2,222 encounters in the Bareilly Zone, while 20 criminals were killed during 971 encounters in the Lucknow Zone. In the Ghaziabad Commissionerate, 18 criminals were killed across 789 encounters—the highest figure among all commissionerates.

In the Kanpur Zone, 12 criminals were killed during 791 encounters; similarly, 12 criminals were killed during 147 encounters in the Lucknow Commissionerate, and 11 criminals were killed during 643 encounters in the Prayagraj Zone.

Likewise, 10 criminals were killed during 489 encounters in the Agra Commissionerate; 9 in Gautam Buddha Nagar across 1,144 encounters; 8 in the Gorakhpur Zone across 699 encounters; 8 in the Varanasi Commissionerate across 146 encounters; 6 in the Prayagraj Commissionerate across 150 encounters; and 4 criminals were killed during 253 encounters in the Kanpur Commissionerate.

The Yogi Government’s ‘Zero Tolerance’ Policy

“Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the UP Police has implemented a ‘zero tolerance’ policy at the grassroots level over the past nine years. This has instilled fear among criminals and strengthened the sense of security among the general public. This is the reason why the state’s law and order situation is receiving appreciation at the national level,” stated a press release.

Alongside police encounters, measures such as property confiscation, actions under the Gangsters Act, and provisions related to laws like the NSA have also been effectively implemented. The statement noted that, under the Yogi government’s ‘zero tolerance’ policy in Uttar Pradesh, this nine-year-long campaign against criminals is not only reflected in statistics but has also succeeded in establishing the rule of law at the grassroots level. “The police’s swift, strict, and courageous actions have compelled criminals to flee the state, and Uttar Pradesh is further solidifying its identity as a fear-free and secure state,” the press note added.

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated on Monday that offering Namaz (prayers) on public roads should not be permitted. He emphasized that such practices could disrupt traffic and cause inconvenience to the general public. He further added that roads are meant for commuting and daily travel, and they should not be utilized for gatherings that obstruct public spaces.

The Chief Minister suggested that religious practices involving large congregations should be managed in an organized manner—including holding them in shifts or utilizing designated places of worship—so that public order and daily life remain unaffected.

“I am often asked whether people in Uttar Pradesh truly do not offer Namaz on the roads. I state clearly that this absolutely does not happen—go and see for yourselves. Roads are meant for commuting. Can just anyone come and create a spectacle at a crossroads, bringing traffic to a halt? What right does anyone have to obstruct public movement?” he asked.

Addressing concerns related to crowd management, the Chief Minister further remarked that religious gatherings should not cause inconvenience to others.

“Some people asked me, ‘How will this work? Our numbers are too large.’ We replied that it can be done in shifts. If there isn’t enough space at home, manage the numbers accordingly. Unnecessary crowding should not be encouraged,” he said.

नमाज पढ़नी है, आप शिफ्ट में पढ़िए…

प्यार से मानेंगे ठीक है, नहीं मानेंगे तो दूसरा तरीका अपनाएंगे… pic.twitter.com/zDoz6YiqTZ
— Yogi Adityanath (@myogiadityanath) May 18, 2026

“If you wish to offer Namaz, you may do so during your designated shift. We will persuade you gently; however, if you do not agree, we will adopt a different approach,” Yogi added.

He further commented that people should be encouraged to observe their religious practices without disrupting public order, adding that the administration would ensure discipline in public spaces.

The Chief Minister also stated that efforts would be made to maintain order through persuasion and dialogue.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia flagged off the Ayodhya-Ahmedabad flight service ahead of the Ram Temple inauguration on January 22 and said Uttar Pradesh will get five more airports within a month, taking the total number of airports in the state to 19. Will go.

On December 30, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Maharishi Valmiki International Airport in Ayodhya. In the coming month, five new airports will be inaugurated in Uttar Pradesh, namely Azamgarh, Aligarh, Moradabad, Chitrakot and Shravasti, taking the total number of airports in the state to 19, as announced by Scindia.

IndiGo, which started services between Ayodhya and Delhi from January 11, will also operate flights between Ayodhya and Ahmedabad thrice a week, with plans to start Mumbai-Ayodhya flights from January 15.

Scindia virtually flagged off the flight from Ayodhya to Ahmedabad from the national capital, with the virtual event attended by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh and Lok Sabha members Lallu Singh and Kirit Premjibhai Solanki. According to Scindia, the Ayodhya airport will be expanded, which will also include an extended runway to accommodate larger aircraft and facilitate international flights.

Meanwhile, Yogi Adityanath mentioned the anticipation of around 100 chartered flights at Ayodhya airport for the consecration ceremony of Ram temple on January 22. Emphasizing the impact of improved air services on tourism and trade, he noted a 30 percent increase in air passengers. This figure reached 96.02 lakh in the last financial year in the state.

Ayodhya, now a preferred destination, has seen improvement in road, rail and air connectivity, in line with the Prime Minister’s vision. The state government allotted 821 acres of land for the airport, and the Civil Aviation Ministry successfully developed a world-class facility within the stipulated time.

The Ayodhya airport, initially built over an area of 6,500 square metres, with a capacity of 600 passengers at peak hours, is set to be expanded. The second phase will increase passenger capacity by 3,000, and extend the runway from 2,200 to 3,700 meters to accommodate larger aircraft and international flights.

Scindia highlighted the significant growth in air connectivity in Uttar Pradesh in the last nine years, with weekly flight movements increasing from 700 in 2014 to 1,654 at present.

Not only this, the information in whose name the land is registered has also been wrongly given many times. In such a situation, the customers have to repent later because in today’s time, buying land is a task of lakhs. You are buying a new land and you are also facing such a problem in which you are not getting the correct information about the land, then now you do not have to worry because there is an app that will tell you the ground reality.

Whichever state you are in, you have to go to Google Search and first type the name of that state and then search by typing igr. Like if you live in Uttar Pradesh, then you have to search in Google by writing Uttar Pradesh igr. After this, the government website will open in front of you, from where you will be able to get the information related to the land easily.

Now you have to go to document search in this website, after that you have to enter your registration number here. After this, you have to click on the submit option and as soon as you do this, all the details of that land will open in front of you.

The points covered in this information include- who owns the property, when the property was purchased, what is the area of the property etc. So in this way you can get the information related to the land.
