The depiction of a lotus flower in the official logo for India’s G20 presidency with the BJP’s party symbol sparked a political ruckus. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday released the logo, theme and website of India’s G20 Presidency. On December 1, India will replace Indonesia as the head of the powerful grouping.
As soon as the people were released, the opposition attacked the BJP-led center. The Congress slammed the saffron party for using the lotus symbol in the G20 logo and accused the BJP of ‘shamelessly promoting itself’.
Congress general secretary in charge of communications Jairam Ramesh wrote in a tweet, 70 years ago Nehru rejected the proposal of making the Congress flag the flag of India. Now, the election symbol of the Bharatiya Janata Party has become the official logo for the President of India of the G20! Shockingly, we know by now that Modi and the BJP will not waste any opportunity to shamelessly promote themselves! ,
BJP’s counterattack
On the other hand, BJP reminded Congress that lotus is the national flower of the country. BJP’s Shahzad Poonawalla took a jibe at the Congress and said, ‘Will you remove the lotus in the name of Kamal Nath? Rajiv (Gandhi) also means ‘lotus’. Hope you don’t see any agenda there.”
