Dhanteras is celebrated all over the country a day or two before Diwali. This year, Dhanteras will be celebrated on 13 November 2020. Dhanteras is also known as Dhantrayodashi and is also important because it marks the beginning of Diwali. On this auspicious day, Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Kubera are worshiped. In Dhanteras, ‘Dhan’ means wealth and ‘Teras’ refers to the thirteenth day in the lunar cycle. According to Hindu calendar, this festival falls on the thirteenth day of Kartik Krishna Paksha in the month of Kartik. This time Chitra Nakshatra and Ayushman Yoga are also being made on the day of Dhanteras. It is considered very fruitful to worship Lord Dhanvantari in Ayushman Yoga of Dhanteras. This time, on Dhanteras, the constellation of soft and friendly Nakshatra is being formed. Buying gold, silver and utensils in this constellation is very auspicious.
It is believed that by purchasing certain things on Dhanteras, it gets renewable. On the day of Dhanteras, business people also worship Maa Lakshmi in their shop and place of business. On this day it is very auspicious to buy and bring some special things at home. Buying brass or silver utensils especially on this day is considered very auspicious. It is believed that things purchased on this day increase wealth prosperity.
Method of worship
On the day of Dhanteras, Kubera, Dhanvantari lord and mother Lakshmi are worshiped in the north in the evening. Light a lamp of ghee at the time of worship. Offer white sweets to Kubera and yellow sweets to Lord Dhanvantari. While performing the puja, chant the mantra “Om Hube Kuberai Namah”. After this, read “Dhanvantari Stotra”. After Dhanvantari Puja, also worship Lord Ganesha and Mother Lakshmi. Light a clay lamp for Lord Ganesha and Mata Lakshmi. Offer them flowers and offer sweets.
Let us tell you that on the day of Dhanteras, lamps are lit in the name of Yama. On this day worship is done before lighting a lamp. Place a wooden bench or plank on the ground and make a swastika mark with a roll. Then place a chamukhi lamp of clay or flour on it, apply tilak on the lamp, offer rice and flowers, add sugar. After this, put a coin of 1 rupee and apply tilak to the family members. Greet the lamp and place it at the main entrance of the house. Note that the flame of the lamp is towards the south. Because it is believed to be the direction of Yamraj. It is believed that by doing this, premature death is averted.
What to buy at Dhanteras
On the day of Dhanteras, buy a broom at home and bring worship in auspicious time. Along with this, lamps should be lit in the house, shop and office at night. People also buy utensils, jewelery etc. on this day. Yes, keep in mind that iron items should not be bought on this day. According to its capability, metal utensils and urns should be purchased on this day. On the auspicious time on Dhanteras, buying dried coriander seeds and keeping them in the house increases wealth in the family.
