Charbagh Railway Station Redevelopment: After announcing rejuvenation plans for Gorakhpur, the Northern Railway (NR) has now announced that it will revamp Lucknow’s Charbagh railway station at an estimated cost of Rs 494 crore.
The redevelopment of Charbagh railway station in Lucknow will be completed by July 2025, announced Shobhan Choudhary, general manager of Northern Railway, during his first visit to the station on Tuesday.
Chowdhary took over as General Manager of NR on 1 April. During his visit to Lucknow to inspect railway infrastructure and ongoing projects in the division, Choudhary interacted with officials of the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) about a redevelopment project worth Rs 494.
The state-of-the-art terminus has facilities such as separation of arrivals and departures, air-concourses, foot-over bridges, lifts and escalators.
“The project involves complete integrated development of both Charbagh (NR) and Lucknow (NER) stations along with a 12.23-acre commercial land parcel,” Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) officials were quoted.
RLDA Chief Project Manager Sudhir Kumar Singh said that the design of the railway station will follow the green building concept, following the life cycle cost minimization approach. “The heritage look of the existing grand station (main building) will be retained, while the rear entry at Manyavar Kanshi Ram Smarak Sthal will have modern architectural design,” he added.
Last week, the Railways announced the makeover of Gorakhpur station at a cost of Rs 612 crore.
