Internet services were snapped in Punjab after the Punjab Police on Saturday arrested six team associates of controversial Khalistan supporter Amritpal Singh.
A tense car chase followed between Amritpal Singh’s team and the Punjab Police, officials said, but Amritpal Singh may have fled the scene. However, Punjab Police sources say that they are continuing their chase to nab Amritpal Singh and around 100 police cars are following Singh’s convoy. Along with this, eight district police forces have also been deployed to chase.
Heavy police deployment was also seen in Punjab’s Moga district. According to Punjab Home Secretary, Internet services will remain suspended in the state till tomorrow following the incident.
The Punjab Police issued an appeal to maintain law and order and appealed for peace in the state. He also appealed to the people not to interfere in the working of the police.
Earlier this month, a close aide of Amritpal Singh was arrested at the Amritsar airport after allegedly trying to flee the country.
Airport authorities at Sri Guru Ramdas International Airport detained Gurinderpal Singh Aujla, who allegedly handled social media for the controversial fundamentalist preacher.
Officials said Aujla was trying to flee to England. Sources said he was trying to board an Air India flight to London.
