Delhi Congress workers protest outside Kapil Sibal’s house, vandalize car

Delhi Congress workers also raised slogans of ‘Get well soon’ and ‘Quit party’ to Kapil Sibal.

Hours after senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal questioned the party leadership amid the Punjab furore, Delhi Congress workers protested outside his residence in the national capital. Reports suggested that the protesters ransacked Sibal’s car, and raised slogans like ‘Quit the party! Come to your senses’, ‘Rahul Gandhi Zindabad’, along with placards that read: ‘Get well soon Kapil Sibal’.

Earlier in the day, Sibal said in a press conference that he would continue to raise the issues as they are “G-23, definitely not G Huzoor-23”. The G-23 is a group of disgruntled Congress leaders who wrote a letter to the party’s interim president Sonia Gandhi last August, calling for sweeping changes within the organisation.

After Sidhu Shocker, Sibal says ‘We are not Ji Huzoor-23’. Is the exodus feeding the ‘rebels’?

Sibal further said that the Congress has no president, and also regretted the recent abandonment of the party, mentioning Jyotiraditya Scindia, Jitin Prasada, Sushmita Dev and Luizinho Faleiro. This comes a day after Navjot Singh Sidhu resigned from the post of Punjab Congress President, triggering a shock wave in the political circles of the state.

Sibal said: “I am standing here with a heavy heart. Our people are leaving us. Sushmita, Faleiro… Jitin became minister.. Scindia also left long ago… People everywhere are leaving us. There is no president in our party. We know, yet we don’t know.” He also said that he cannot see the Congress weakening, adding, “Writing one of our senior allies to call the CWC (meeting) immediately.”

Sibal is one of the most aggressive faces of G-23. He had hosted a dinner for prominent opposition leaders in August to strengthen opposition unity for ‘Mission 2024’. This comes at a time when even Rahul Gandhi was making efforts to ensure opposition unity.
