Regional Rapid Transit System Corridors: The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has eight Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) networks planned in the NCR to ease your travel time. For those who don’t know, the RRTS network is designed to offer world-class commuter transit services that will reduce your commute time with high-speed and high-frequency operation.
RRTS trains will run at a speed of 160 kmph and will ensure quality last mile connectivity catering to the needs of all categories of passengers. The network will have a frequency of 5-10 minutes and implement a multi-modal-integration approach with railway stations, metro stations, airports and bus depots.
RRTS Corridor: Eight stretches planned by NCRTC
The Planning Commission constituted a task force in 2005 under the chairmanship of the Secretary, Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD), which identified 8 corridors for implementation of the system, out of which three corridors were prioritized under Phase 1 of the project. Was given These three are:
- Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor: The estimated 82 km long Delhi-Meerut corridor will pass through one of the most densely populated areas of NCR connecting Delhi with Uttar Pradesh. This section will have 16 RRTS stations and 9 additional stations for Meerut MRTS.
- Delhi-Gurugram-SNB-Alwar RRTS Corridor: This 164-km smart line will wind its way through industrial areas of Haryana and Rajasthan and benefit the entire region between Gurugram to Alwar. The corridor is expected to increase the number of commuters traveling from Delhi and Gurugram to the areas of Manesar, Bawal and Neemrana. There will be 22 stations in this section.
- Delhi-Panipat RRTS Corridor: The 103 km long corridor aims to connect the national capital with cities like Sonipat, Gannaur, Samalkha and Panipat. It will have a total of 16 stations
These three corridors will not only reduce travel time but also bring environmental and economic benefits to the entire region. All these corridors will meet at Sarai Kale Khan RRTS station in Delhi.
The other five corridors are:
- Delhi-Faridabad-Ballabhgarh-Palwal
- Ghaziabad – Khurja
- Delhi-Bahadurgarh-Rohtak
- Ghaziabad-Hapur
- Delhi-Shahdara-Baraut
Phase I of Delhi-Meerut RRTS to open by March
Once the RRTS corridor becomes operational, there is no doubt that the better connectivity will spur a lot of economic activity in the NCR. Most of the energy requirements of the RRTS will be met through renewable energy sources. Solar panels will also be installed in RRTS depot and station buildings. Apart from saving cost and travel time, the RRTS network will also generate more employment opportunities.
