Five terrorists were killed in an ongoing encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district, police said on Friday. Police said that the operation is in the final stages.
According to Jammu and Kashmir Police, the encounter took place in Samno area of DH Pora area of Kulgam district on Thursday afternoon.
The army’s 34 Rashtriya Rifles, 9 Para (elite special force unit), police and CRPF are involved in the joint operation against the terrorists. The village was further surrounded during the night and lights were installed near the encounter site.
The Army said that earlier, on Wednesday, November 15, an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control in Uri sector was foiled.
The infiltrators were killed by the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police during a joint operation named ‘Operation Kali’.
This was the second infiltration attempt in the same area.
The army said one of the two infiltrators killed was Bashir Ahmed Malik, a key figure in Pakistan-backed cross-border terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
