New Delhi: Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Virbhadra Singh passed away at the age of 87 in Shimla early on Thursday. The Himachal government on Friday announced three-day state mourning from July 8 to July 10 in honor of Virbhadra Singh.
According to news agency PTI, Virbhadra Singh was battling a long illness. Reportedly, he breathed his last at the Indira Gandhi Medical College Hospital around 4 am.
IGMC Senior Medical Superintendent Dr Janak Raj said, “Former CM Virbhadra Singh ji died due to multi-organ failure at around 4 am at Indira Gandhi Medical College Hospital (IGMCJ) here.”
Virbhadra Singh had tested positive for coronavirus on April 12 and was admitted to Max Hospital in Chandigarh the next day.
The six-time Himachal Pradesh CM was discharged from the hospital on April 30, after recovering from the first infection. After leave he returned to his home in Shimla.
However, he had to be taken to the IGMCJ within a few hours after he complained of breathlessness. Sources close to him said that he was in the hospital since then and was kept on ventilator for the last two days.
