Ganga Dussehra is one of the most auspicious festivals in Hinduism. It is celebrated by devotees to mark the origin of the holy river Ganga. The holy festival of Ganga Dussehra is celebrated every year on the tenth day of Shukla Paksha of Jyeshtha month. This year, the tenth day of Shukla Paksha of Jyeshtha month is on June 20. According to Hindu mythology, Goddess Ganga came to earth on Dashami (the month of Jyeshtha) and freed Bhagirath’s ancestors from the curse. This is the reason why Goddess Ganga is worshiped during this month and period. This festival is celebrated for a period of 10 days.
Due to COVID-19 norms and lockdown across the country, Ganga Dussehra celebrations will not be held this year. But usually every year hundreds of devotees attend the holy dip in the Ganges River. They believe that the river has medicinal benefits and cures diseases. Meanwhile, many devotees also believe that whoever donates or makes any kind of donation by taking a dip in the river, receives virtue and respect in the eyes of Goddess Ganga.
