The circumambulation of Braj Chaurasi Kos passes through the villages of Hodal district of Rajasthan and Haryana besides Mathura. There are 25 halts for the rest of the pilgrims in the 268 km parikrama route. Around 1300 villages fall in this entire circumambulation. There are 1100 lakes, 36 forest-groves, mountain-mountains associated with Krishna’s pastimes. Circumambulation at this time
Most of the yatras take place only in the month of Chaitra, Baisakh and not in the month of Chaturmas or Purushottam. The Parikrama Yatra is carried out once in a year from Chaitra Purnima to Baisakh Purnima. Some people start circumambulation in the month of Ashwin after Vijaya Dashami in the autumn period. There are different timings of parikrama in Shaivas and Vaishnavas.
What is the importance?
It is believed that Lord Krishna had called all the pilgrimages to Braj for the darshan of Maiya Yashoda and Nand Baba. To get rid of 84 lakh yonis by circumambulating 84 kos. By doing circumambulation, the sins of birth after birth are destroyed at every step. It has also been said in the scriptures that those who perform this circumambulation get the fruits of Ashwamedha Yagya at every step. Also, the person who does this circumambulation, that person definitely attains salvation.
It is said in Garga Samhita that Yashoda Maiya and Nanda Baba expressed their desire to visit 4 dhams from Lord Shri Krishna, then Lord Shri Krishna said that you have become old, so I am here for you to invoke all the pilgrimages and four dhams. I will call From that time Kedarnath and Badrinath also became present here. Within 84 kos there is a temple of Kedarnath on the mountain on the border of Rajasthan. Apart from this, devotees of Gupt Kashi, Yamunotri and Gangotri are also seen here. Thereafter, Yashoda Maiya and Nanda Baba circumambulated him.
