India is not neutral; PM Modi discusses the Ukraine war in his meeting with Putin

PM Modi-Putin Meet: In his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, PM Modi mentioned the Ukraine war. The issue of the months-long Ukraine war also came up during the meeting. PM Modi strongly and clearly stated India’s stance on this conflict. He told Putin that India is not neutral or indifferent to the Ukraine war. We are supporters of peace and want the world to return to the path of peace. It is worth noting that the Russia-Ukraine war has been going on for almost four years. All efforts to achieve peace have failed. PM Modi has consistently advocated and made efforts to restore peace between the two countries. He once again raised this issue with President Putin. Regarding PM Modi’s stance, Putin said that peace is the ultimate solution and Russia is committed to achieving it.

During the bilateral summit in Delhi, Modi declared that India is “not neutral” in the Ukraine conflict—instead, it is “for peace.”

He stated that India supports a “peaceful solution” and emphasized that war cannot resolve the crisis; only dialogue and diplomacy can.

This confirms his previous statements—including those made to other world leaders—that India has “one side,” and that side is peace.

Russia praised India’s “focus on peace efforts,” and Putin acknowledged and welcomed India’s participation in discussions on Ukraine.

Some Western countries and allies are pressuring India to take a tougher stance against Russia—India’s meeting with Putin and its continued trade/energy ties with Moscow have made this balancing act more difficult.

The India-Russia summit underscores New Delhi’s long-standing strategic partnership with Moscow, even as global alignments have shifted following the Ukraine war.
