India is set to become an auto manufacturing hub in the coming times: Prakash Javadekar

New Delhi: Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Prakash Javadekar today inaugurated NATRAX- High-Speed Track (HST), the longest track in Asia, in Indore. NATRAX has been developed over an area of 1000 acres of land. Where all major categories of vehicles ranging from 2 wheelers to heavy tractor-trailers will be able to conduct high-speed tests. Which will be a major center for all types of high-speed testing for vehicles.

Speaking at the e-inauguration of the world-class 11.3 km long high-speed track, Javadekar said that India is destined to become a manufacturing hub of automobiles and spare parts. The minister said we are rapidly moving towards ‘Self-reliant India’ and all-around efforts are being made in this direction. He said, his ministry is committed to fulfilling the prime minister’s dream under which India will become a hub of auto manufacturing. He said the expansion of the automobile and manufacturing industries will also help in creating new jobs.

The minister said that many projects in the railways, highways and waterways sector were pending for years, which are being completed today due to strong political will.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal said that the Government is promoting manufacturing and automobile industry as it will help in empowering the country in a big way.

The NATRAX center has several testing capabilities such as maximum speed measurement, acceleration, fuel consumption efficiency at fixed speed, emission testing through realroad driving simulation, vehicle stability during lane change, high speed consistency testing. In addition, it is a center of excellence in vehicular dynamics.

HST is used to measure the maximum high speed capability of high-end cars like BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Tesla etc. Which cannot be measured on any other Indian test track. Being located in Madhya Pradesh, it is accessible to most of the OEMs. Foreign OEMs will also consider using the NATRAX HST to develop prototype cars for Indian conditions. At present, foreign OEMs conduct tests on high-speed tracks abroad for high-speed testing needs.

It is a prime location for all kinds of high speed trials, being one of the largest tracks in the world. It can cater to a wide range of vehicles. Vehicles ranging from two wheelers to the heaviest tractor trailers can be tested on this track. The steering of the vehicles on the curves of the track can also be controlled at a maximum speed of 375 kmph. For this the track has been made less oval. Which makes it one of the safest test track globally.
