Indian Railways has come up with certain rules for berths and seats for passengers

Traveling by train is cheaper for most people in our country. Indian Railways offers different types of seats including berths depending on the budget of the customer.

Indian Railways has come up with certain rules for berths and seats which passengers must follow for efficient operation of services. Here are the rules that passengers will have to follow during the journey:

According to the Railway Board’s circular, passengers can sleep in reserved coaches only between 10 pm and 6 am so that other people can use the seats during the rest of the journey. The sleeping time was reduced by an hour because passengers sometimes fell asleep as soon as they boarded the train – day or night – leaving the top and middle berths high and dry. Officials have said that the problem arises when middle berth passengers refuse to get up, do not allow those in lower berths to sit comfortably.

This rule also applies to listening to loud music and talking on the phone in a train. This rule was implemented when the Indian Railways received several complaints about loud talking on the phone during sleep hours and listening to music without earphones.

TTE (Travelling Ticket Examiner), Catering staff and other railway personnel have been instructed to maintain public decorum in trains.

Also, do you know that it is a legal offense to pull a train chain and stop a train without any apparent reason? The train’s alarm chain system is only for emergency. Chain pulling is permitted in a train only when a companion, child, elderly or disabled person misses the train, in case of an accident on the train or during other emergencies. There must be some solid reason for pulling the chain in a moving train.
