Jewar Airport Inauguration: Noida International Airport to Open on October 30; Flights to 10 Cities to Begin in First Phase

Noida International Airport (also known as Jewar Airport) will be officially inaugurated on October 30, 2025. This announcement was made by Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu during the ‘Passenger Service Day’ event held at Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad. Commercial flights will begin within 45 days of the inauguration, i.e., by November-December 2025.

Connectivity in the First Phase

In the first phase, the airport will connect to at least 10 major Indian cities, reducing pressure on Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport for travelers from the NCR region. These cities include:

Construction and Readiness Status

95% Construction Complete: Final work on the domestic terminal is underway, while the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has installed equipment in the air traffic control tower.
Security Clearance: The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has granted security clearance.
Testing: The baggage system, security checks, check-in counters, and boarding gates are being repeatedly tested under the Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer (ORAT) program.
Estimated Cost: ₹10,056 crore (Phase 1), totaling ₹30,000 crore in five phases.

Where is Jewar International Airport located?

This greenfield airport is located in the Jewar area of ​​Gautam Buddha Nagar district in western Uttar Pradesh, about 75 kilometers from Delhi. The airport aims to become a major aviation and logistics hub for the Delhi-NCR region.

Challenges and Delays

The project has faced numerous delays—originally scheduled to open in 2024, but has now been postponed to 2025. The Uttar Pradesh government has imposed a fine of ₹10 lakh per day on the concessionaire, Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), starting in January 2025. The final airport license is now awaited from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

Significance and Impact

This airport will be the second major airport in the National Capital Region (NCR), providing better connectivity to Western Uttar Pradesh, Greater Noida, and surrounding areas. It will spur real estate development and create approximately 100,000 direct and indirect jobs.
