Canadian-based Pakistani-origin writer and activist Tarek Fatah passed away on Monday after a prolonged illness. He was 73.
The Canadian-based writer was known for his progressive views on Islam and terrorism.
Tarek Fatah, known for his hardline stand on Pakistan, had often expressed his support to the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre.
He was a staunch defender of human rights and a staunch opponent of religious fundamentalism in any form.
Fatah was born in Pakistan in 1949 and later moved to Canada in the early 1980s.
He has worked as a political activist, journalist and television host in Canada and has written several books, including “Chasing a Mirage: The Tragic Illusion of an Islamic State” and “The Jew Is Not My Enemy: Unveiling the Myths That Fuel Anti Muslim”. -Semitism”.
The RSS condoled the death of Tarek Fatah and said that his significant contribution to the media as well as the literary world will always be remembered.
In a condolence message posted on Twitter, RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale said Fatah was a noted thinker, writer and commentator.
Dattatreya said, “His significant contribution to the world of media and literature will be greatly missed. He remained committed to his principles and beliefs throughout his life and was respected for his courage and conviction.”
