According to Dr Somnath Gupta, Senior Consultant Physician, Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad, the protein content in roasted chickpeas aids in muscle repair and growth, contributing to overall muscle health.

Dr Gupta said, “The fibre content aids digestion, keeps the digestive system healthy and helps maintain regular bowel movements. Roasted chickpeas also contain vitamins (e.g., B vitamins) and minerals (e.g., iron, magnesium) that contribute to overall health and support various bodily functions.” Dr Dilip Gude, Senior Consultant Physician, Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad mentioned that chickpeas are not only a great source of dietary (natural) fibre, but they are also rich in protein and have a low glycemic index. “The absence of cholesterol, abundance of vitamin B complex, vitamin C, iron, selenium, manganese, calcium, copper, zinc and potassium (with very little sodium) are known to help prevent heart disease. These can also lower homocysteine ​​and regulate and ensure good blood flow to vital organs by reducing blood clot formation. The amount of magnesium is also optimal and helps in the electrical activity (rhythm) of the heart. These also help in controlling blood pressure,” said Dr. Gude.
