Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai on the decision on contesting the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, saying he will follow the party’s choice. Fielding candidates, even booth presidents, highlighting the development prospects in Tamil Nadu emphasizes the party’s prerogative.
Amid speculations that Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai will contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he said that he will let the party decide.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Annamalai said, “My duty is to follow and implement whatever decision our senior national leadership takes. I have no prejudices, likes and dislikes in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).”
He also stressed that it is up to the party as to whom it will field in the state and said that a booth president can also be fielded in the Lok Sabha elections.
“Why should I field a Union Minister to show that the party has grown? Why can’t we field our booth president, our district president? Our booth president is strong enough to face any party in Tamil Nadu. is strong. It is for them and the party to decide who they want to field,” Annamalai said.
“Many of our stalwart leaders, including our Home Minister, have started their life as booth presidents. We can field anyone in Tamil Nadu to show that the BJP can win and the BJP has grown in Tamil Nadu.”
Stating that it is his duty to follow party rules, he said, “Whatever the party tells me I have to follow, that is the nature of the party. Today the party has asked me to complete the state level yatra (En Manna En Makkal) and we have just completed it,” he told reporters.
“Today BJP has given me some responsibility to ensure the growth of the party in the state and I am doing that, and tomorrow morning if the party asks me to do that (referring to the upcoming Lok Sabha), I will do that. “
“I am not going to react to speculations,” he said. Whatever decision our senior national leadership takes, my duty is to follow it and ensure that it is implemented on the ground.
