Ganesh devotees are eager to welcome Bappa home. Ganesh Chaturthi commemorates the birth of Lord Ganesha and is one of the most prominent Hindu festivals in India. Lord Ganesha is worshipped as the god of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune. He is regarded as a force against obstacles and a guiding light in times of darkness. Ganesh Chaturthi is also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi or Ganesh Utsav. Several states, including Maharashtra, Telangana and Karnataka, celebrate the festival on a grand scale.
During Ganesh Chaturthi, many families welcome Ganesha idols home. These clay idols become the central aspect of rituals and celebrations. Devotees bow down to seek blessings from them and organise pujas. As devotees prepare to bring Ganpati home, there are a few things we should keep in mind ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi to make it an auspicious and happy festival.
Ganesh Chaturthi : Things to do
Many Ganesh devotees love to make their idols with faith and passion. However, they should keep in mind that a Ganesh idol is not complete without a crown or mukut. Put a gorgeous crown on the idol to ensure good luck and fortune.
When welcoming Bappa home, drape a red chunari or cloth on your Ganesh idol.
The auspicious directions to install the idol of Lord Ganesha are east, west, and north-east.
Whether you are buying or making your Ganesh idol, make sure it is seated. Also, make sure the idol includes his companion mouse and some modaks to bring positive energy into the house.
Ganpati Bappa should be welcomed with conches, bells, and cheers.
Ganesh Chaturthi : Don’t do these things
It is important to note that the trunk of Lord Ganesha should not be facing the right side, as it signifies his stubborn attitude or difficult times. Always keep the trunk facing the left side, which signifies success and positivity.
Avoid eating onions, garlic and other Tamil foods after Ganesha Sthapana. Cook only sattvik dishes and offer them to Lord Ganesha first.
The house should not be left empty during Ganesh Chaturthi and one family member should always be at home with the deity.
Do not close the main door during the Sthapana.
Never immerse the idol of Lord Ganesha without performing aarti and puja.
