Varun, Maneka Gandhi removed from BJP’s national executive after Lakhimpur tweet

Varun Gandhi’s boycott after he condemned the incident at Lakhimpur Kheri, in which a Union minister’s convoy ran away and killed four protesting farmers, was removed from the BJP’s national executive.

New Delhi: BJP MP from Pilibhit, Varun Gandhi, who tweeted several messages against the Lakhimpur Kheri incident and in support of farmers, has been removed from the party’s new national executive. His mother Maneka Gandhi has also been removed from the apex body of the BJP.

The BJP on Thursday constituted a new 80-member national executive committee, sacking two prominent leaders – Varun Gandhi and former Union minister Chaudhary Birender Singh, both of whom have been critical of the controversial agricultural laws.

Apart from its top officials, which include Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah, it has party stalwarts LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi as its members.

Targeting the central government despite being a BJP MP, Gandhi defended the Kisan Mahapanchayat and suggested the central government to re-negotiate with the farmers. “Lakhs of farmers have gathered in Muzaffarnagar today in protest. They are our own flesh and blood. We need to start reconnecting with them in a respectful way: understand their pain, their point of view and work with them to reach common ground,” tweeted Varun.
