New Delhi: Preparations for the New Year celebration are going on all over the country and the cold is also ravaging its havoc. Meanwhile, if you are thinking of celebrating the new year, then do not ignore the warnings of the Meteorological Department at all. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an advisory regarding the severe cold conditions in North India, asking people to stay indoors and not to consume alcohol.
In view of the severe cold wave, since 28 December, the Meteorological Department in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and North Rajasthan has advised people to ‘avoid alcohol’. The Meteorological Department has said in its advice, “Do not drink alcohol, stay indoors and eat fruits rich in vitamin-C and moisturize your skin regularly to withstand the effects of severe cold.”
Why did the Meteorological Department ask people not to drink alcohol?
According to experts, drinking alcohol makes you weak during extremely cold weather, which is why IMD has asked people not to consume it. Experts suggest that drinking alcohol may ‘falsely feel the heat and heat’ but it reduces body temperature.
According to a study conducted by the United States Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine, alcohol consumption in extremely cold weather can affect the human body’s ability to ‘shiver’, making them vulnerable in winter.
Michael Dick said, “People feel warm after drinking alcohol, so they don’t wear gloves, don’t dress appropriately, and then people drink horribly high amounts and get into snow in lesser clothes, Which can prove very harmful.
Here are some tips for extreme cold weather:
Eat more calorie foods and consume hot beverages.
Avoid doing things that can make you tired quickly.
Always cover your ears, face, hands, and feet.
Use alcoholic beverages alternated with non-alcoholic beverages.
If you travel, keep a winter survival kit in your vehicle.
Cold wave will run in India from 28 December
Meanwhile, IMD has stated that a severe cold wave will hit North India from December 28 and increases the chances of flu, runny nose or various diseases that usually increase due to prolonged stay in the cold. Cold days are expected to occur on December 28 and 29 in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi and on December 29 and 30 in northern Rajasthan. On December 28, December 29, thick fog may occur over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi. According to the Meteorological Department, a ‘cold day’ or ‘severe cold day’ is considered when the minimum temperature is below 10 degrees and the maximum temperature is below 4.5 degrees Celsius or 6.4 degrees Celsius below normal.
