New Delhi: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways issued a notification on 7 January 2021 to facilitate the issuance of IDPs for Indian citizens whose International Driving Permit (IDP) has expired while they are abroad. is.
There was no system of renewal for citizens who were abroad and their IDP had expired. Now, with this amendment, it is proposed that Indian citizens can apply for renewal through Indian embassies/missions abroad, from where these applications will go to the vehicle portal in India, which will be considered by the respective RTOs. The IDP will be couriered to the addresses of citizens abroad by the respective RTOs.
This notification also eliminates the terms of a medical certificate and valid visa at the time of requesting an IDP in India. The idea is that a citizen who has a valid driving license needs a second medical certificate. Additionally, there are some countries where visas are issued on arrival or at the last minute. In such cases, a visa is not available when applying for an IDP in India prior to travel. Therefore, IDP applications can now be made without a visa.
