New Delhi: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has decided that all lanes of the duty collection plaza on national highways will be declared as “Fastag lanes of duty plaza” from midnight of 15 February / 16 February 2021.
According to the National Highway Tariff Rules 2008, any vehicle which does not have a fast tag or, which does not have a valid, functional fastag, is charged an amount equal to double the fee have to pay prescribed for that category on entering the plaza.
In a statement released today, the ministry has clarified that this was done to promote fee payment through digital mode, reduce waiting time and fuel consumption and provide an easy and seamless route through the fee plaza is. The ministry had ordered Fittag to fit into the M&N categories of motor vehicles with effect from 1 January 2021.
Category M means, ‘A motor vehicle with at least four wheels used to carry passengers. And category N implies’ a motor vehicle that has at least four wheels for carrying goods and which can carry persons other than luggage.
