BookMyShow on Wednesday canceled Punjabi-Canadian singer Shubhneet Singh’s India tour as the ticket-booking app faced boycott calls on social media for allegedly hosting the pro-Khalistani singer.
“Singer Shubhneet Singh’s Still Rollin’ Tour for India has been canceled. To this end, BookMyShow has initiated a full refund of the ticket amount for all consumers who purchased tickets for the show. Refund will appear within 7-10 working days. The customer’s source account of the original transaction,” it said.
Earlier in the day, #UninstallBookMyShow was trending on X, with some people calling out Shubh as the singer is known to be a supporter of ‘Khalistani’ and separatist leaders.
This led to a diplomatic row between India and Canada, in which both expelled a senior diplomat. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused New Delhi of being involved in the killing of 45-year-old Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia in June this year. India immediately rejected Canada’s claim as absurd.
The dispute has worsened already sour relations between the two countries and overshadowed trade talks, which have been put on hold.
Shubh is an emerging Punjabi rapper who rose to fame due to his song ‘Still Rollin’ getting a huge number of streams on Instagram Reels. He released his first breakout single ‘We Rollin’ in 2021 and as of 2023, it has received over 201 million views on YouTube.
He recently released his debut album ‘Still Rollin’ and announced his first India tour this year, playing in 10 different cities and a cruise.
BookMyShow was the sponsor of the Indian tour.
