IPL 2021, CSK vs DC: Delhi Capital (DC) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by seven wickets with eight balls to spare in their first match of the tournament. With the help of half-centuries from Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw, DC scored a total of 189 runs. The openers shared a 138-run partnership. Shaw scored 72 runs while Dhawan scored 85 runs. In the end, Captain Pant carried the match to the end. It was DC’s most successful run chase against CSK in the history of IPL.
Earlier, Rishabh Pant won the toss against CSK and was first selected for fielding at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. DC fast bowlers got off to a good start with the new ball from Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad. However, Suresh Raina played his usual self in the comeback, scoring a half-century.
Moeen Ali did well in his CSK as well as batting 36 at number 3. CSK lost a few wickets in the middle overs but batted deep. Unfortunately for CSK, Raina fell victim to a mix-up with Ravindra Jadeja as he was run out for 54 runs.
But, Jadeja and Sam Curran ensured that CSK scored well for the seventh wicket and their 51-run partnership helped the team score a total of 188/7. Avesh Khan was the bowlers’ choice for DC as he took two wickets for 23 runs in his four overs, including du Plessis and MS Dhoni.
