IPL 2022: MS Dhoni hits boundary after boundary and hits a 38-ball fifty for Chennai Super Kings, “Thala is Back” appears on the screen.
Chennai Super Kings were on a sticky wicket for the most part of the tournament’s opening match today against defending IPL champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, who won the toss and opted to bowl.
CSK batsmen were struggling to reach 100 after losing several crucial wickets to Robin Uthappa and Ruturaj Gaikwad, who bagged the Orange Cap for the most runs last year.
The atmosphere was gloomy for the CSK fans when Shivam Dubey (3 runs) was returning to the pavilion, till Mahendra Singh Dhoni walked on the pitch. The score was 61 for 5 in 10.5 overs. After the standing ovation and the roar of ‘Dhoni, Dhoni’, CSK and the former India captain stood firmly on the pitch. He had to hit those boundaries and get those runs. And he did.
As Dhoni hit boundary after boundary and hit a half-century off 38 balls, “Thala is Back” flashed across the screen. He hit 7 fours and a six. His partnership with new captain Ravindra Jadeja helped CSK post 131 for 5. Dhoni scored his 28th T20 half-century and played a brilliant innings of 50 not out.
