Importance of Kartik Purnima

The significance of Kartik Purnima is also associated with Mahabharata. According to the legend, when the Mahabharata war between the Kauravas and the Pandavas ended, the Pandavas were very upset and sad that many of their relatives had died in the war. According to the Puranas, on the date of Kartik Purnima, Lord Vishnu wore the Matsya avatar to protect the religion, the Vedas. According to the belief, Goddess Tulsi was married in the form of Shaligram of God upon waking of Lord Vishnu on Ekadashi of Kartik Shukla Paksha. This date has special significance for the arrival of Lord Vishnu in Baikuntham and the marriage of Tulsi on the day of Kartik Purnima to get merit.
