Prabhu Gaur Gopal Das, a former electrical engineer with US-based technology giant Hewlett Packard, is one of the most popular Indian spiritual gurus. He is a motivational speaker, a storyteller, a filmmaker and author of several books and motivational novels, including Life’s Amazing Secrets, Revival, Checkmate, Conquest.
In his own words, he has been “a practicing monk for twenty-three years, seeking to understand the deeper aspects of the human condition: our relationships, our happiness, and our purpose.” Gaur Gopal Das describes himself as a lifestyle coach and friend to millions of people who follow him closely on various social media platforms. In addition, he is also an active member of the International Society of Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON).
Family Background
Born in a middle-class Marwari Jain family in Vambori village of Ahmednagar district, Maharashtra. His father worked for the Indian Meteorological Department. His father suffered from Parkinson’s disease and died in 2009. He has a younger sister in his family, who lives in Pune. He has taken a vow of lifelong celibacy.
Career as an Electrical Engineer
Gaur Gopal Das went to The Kusro Wadia Institute of Technology from where he obtained a Diploma in Electrical Engineering. Between 1992 and 1995, he studied at the COEP University of Technology in Pune and earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. He started his career as an electrical engineer at Hewlett Packard (HP), a US-based information technology company. However, he left his job after a year as he was not much satisfied with it. At this point in his life, he decided to give up his materialistic desires and follow the path of spirituality and self-realization.
Transformation Into a Monk
In 196, Gaur Gopal Das became an active member of ISKCON in the year 1996. He was strongly influenced by ISKCON founder AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, and began his spiritual training in Mumbai under the able guidance of his guru Radhanath Swami. During his stay in Mumbai, he had the opportunity to meet over 30 monks from affluent families with excellent academic records.
When asked about his transformation, Gaur Gopal Das says that earning money is easy in this world, but being able to inspire and change the lives of others is a challenging task. In this context, he argues that he did not quit his job, but upgraded himself as a lifestyle coach.
An Avid traveler, Motivational Speaker
Gaur Gopal initially started interacting with students from some of the most prestigious colleges in Mumbai. As time passed, his popularity grew, and he was invited to deliver keynote lectures at various institutions and multinational companies. Over time, they also partnered with institutions such as Google, Salesforce, Bombay Stock Exchange, CII and YPO. Since then, Gaur Gopal Das has been globetrotting and delivering motivational speeches at various prestigious companies and colleges, during which he mainly addresses topics such as true happiness, success, and the meaning of relationships, values in life.
He has been invited by many multinational companies such as London-based Ernst & Young, London, Infosys, Barclays, McIntosh, Bank of America, Ford and many other corporate institutions. He also had the distinction of addressing the British Parliament thrice and delivering the keynote address at the United Nations.
