Pakistan: Imran Khan jailed for 3 years, arrested from Lahore

New Delhi: Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was arrested in Lahore on Saturday after a trial court sentenced him to three years in prison in the Toshakhana case, news agency Reuters reported.

The sentence is related to an investigation by the Election Commission, which found the former prime minister guilty of illegally selling state gifts worth more than 140 million Pakistani rupees ($635,000) during his tenure from 2018 to 2022.

However, Imran Khan has declared himself innocent.

Khan’s political party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) said in a statement that they have already taken the district court case to the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Reuters reported.

According to legal experts, the sentence could end Khan’s chances of participating in the national elections due before the beginning of November, Reuters reported.
