Pakistan mosque blast: Peshawar suicide blast that killed dozens

Islamabad: Over 20 people were killed and over 100 others injured in a powerful suicide blast on Monday at a mosque in Pakistan’s northwestern city of Peshawar.

The blast took place around 1.40 pm during afternoon prayers when the suicide bomber blew himself up. A portion of the building collapsed following the explosion and many people were buried under the debris.

Several visuals of the blast appeared on social media in which people could be seen running in panic and injured people being taken to hospitals in ambulances.

According to eyewitnesses, most of those injured in the blast were policemen.

Security and health officials said the injured were admitted to Peshawar’s Lady Reading Hospital.

Of the total injured, the condition of 13 is said to be serious.

Emergency has been declared in Peshawar hospitals.
