Paush Purnima: All wishes are fulfilled by bathing and donating

On this day, taking bath in Dashashwamedha in Kashi and in Triveni Sangam is considered to be of great importance. It is said that taking a bath on this day fulfills all your wishes and the stalled work starts getting done. On this day, one gets the special virtue of fasting and by donating, Lakshmi ji resides in the house.

Today is also called Shankbhari Purnima.

According to the scriptures, on the full moon day of Paush month, Maa Durga took the incarnation of Mata Shakambhari for the welfare of her devotees. It is said that on this day Maa Durga had freed the devotees from the scarcity of food on earth and they got plenty of food. Hence she is considered the goddess of vegetables and fruits. Paush Purnima Puja Method

  • On the day of Paush Purnima, take a vow of fasting before taking a bath in the morning.
  • Take a bath in the holy river or pool and before bathing, pay obeisance to Varun Dev.
  • After bathing, offering arghya to the Sun God while reciting the Surya Mantra.
  • After retiring from the bath, worship Lord Madhusudan and offer Naivedya to him.
  • After feeding food to a needy person or a Brahmin, charity and dakshina should be given.
  • Sesame seeds, jaggery, blankets and woolen clothes should be specially given in charity.
