Rohit Sharma has been named as vice-captain for the remaining 2 Tests

Rohit Sharma, who has completed his mandatory 14-day quarantine period, has been named as the vice-captain for the remaining 2 Tests against Australia. Earlier, Cheteshwar Pujara was named vice-captain after regular captain Virat Kohli returned to India to attend the birth of his first child. Cheteshwar Pujara was Rahane’s deputy in the Boxing Day Test
The third test starts on January 7.

The destroyer opener missed the limited-overs of India’s tour down under leg as well as the first two Tests but is available for selection for the third Test in Sydney. Rohit passed a fitness test and reached Sydney earlier this month but due to tough quarantine rules, he could not join the team before the Melbourne Test.

On 30 December, Rohit Sharma warmly welcomed his teammates and support staff as the star batsman was seen wearing a face mask as he walked into the team hotel.

Rohit Sharma was greeted by his comrades, including Ravindra Jadeja, Wriddhiman Saha and others. Batting coach Vikram Rathore was seen having a brief conversation with the opener. Rohit pats Bumrah on the back as the team gathers at the hotel.

In a video shared by the BCCI, Rohit was also seen interacting with head coach Ravi Shastri. Shastriji can be heard saying, “How old was my friend?”
