VK Tripathi appointed as Chairman and CEO of the Railway Board

Indian Railways has appointed VK Tripathi as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Railway Board. He is presently working as General Manager, North-Eastern Railway, Gorakhpur.

Tripathi’s appointment has been approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) and he is presently the General Manager of North-Eastern Railway. He will replace Sunit Sharma, a 1982 batch IRSME officer.

A career railway officer, Tripathi did his B.Tech (Electrical Engineering) from Roorkee and joined the Railways through the 1983 Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers (IRSEE) batch.

His first posting was in Northern Railway as Assistant Electrical Engineer.

Tripathi has successfully discharged the duties of Electricity Department for Northern, Central and Western Railway and has also held key positions as Divisional Railway Manager, North Central Railway, Allahabad; Chief Electrical Locomotive Engineer; Additional General Manager, Western Railway; and Additional Member/Traction in Railway Board.

He has attended higher management training programs in Switzerland and USA.

Tripathi was also instrumental in commissioning and indigenization of state-of-the-art three-stage locomotives, which are now the work horse of the Indian Railways.
