A 28-year-old Bajrang Dal worker was stabbed in the district capital city, following which violence broke out during his funeral, injuring three, including a photojournalist and a woman policeman. Two people have been arrested in connection with Sunday night’s murder, police said, adding that efforts were on to nab the rest of the suspects at the earliest, even as the government appealed for calm.
Home Minister Araga Gyanendra said a group of four to five members of the attackers were suspected of involvement in the murder.
Three people were injured when unbelievers pelted stones while several vehicles were torched and shops vandalized during the funeral of late Harsh, which took place amid tight security on Monday.
According to official sources, stones were pelted when Harsh’s body was taken from McGann District Hospital. Police tried to bring the situation under control and allowed the funeral procession to go ahead and perform the last rites.
Harsh, a resident of Seegehatti, was attacked by a group of strangers in Bharti Basti on Sunday night, after which he was taken to McGann Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
He said: “Recently, DK Shivakumar (state Congress president) made a statement that in the premises of a government school, the national flag was lowered to hoist the saffron (saffron) flag. And 50 lakh saffron flags were brought in trucks from Surat and distributed among the students.
