‘Jio, You Built It’: Mukesh Ambani Becomes Emotional as Isha and Anant Speak During Jio’s Listing Event

Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani became emotional during the listing ceremony for Jio Platforms on Wednesday. At the event, his children—Isha Ambani and Anant Ambani—spoke about the company’s journey, their family’s legacy, and the individuals who contributed to building this digital enterprise. The poignant moment unfolded as the next generation of the Reliance family discussed Jio’s remarkable growth, its deep connection with millions of Indians, and the core values that continue to guide this major business conglomerate.

As he listened to his children speak during the event, Mukesh Ambani was seen wiping away tears.

This listing marks a significant milestone for Jio Platforms, which has evolved into a major digital business in just one decade.

During her address, Isha Ambani, Executive Director of Reliance Retail Ventures, recalled a conversation that took place during a family dinner. She shared how her father spoke about Reliance’s first-ever Initial Public Offering (IPO) and the vision of his father, Dhirubhai Ambani.

She remarked, “A few evenings ago, at the dinner table, my father, Mr. Mukesh Ambani, was reminiscing about 1977—a time when he was 20 years old and working on Reliance’s first public offering. My grandfather, Mr. Dhirubhai Ambani, had decided to bring Reliance to the common people.”

This anecdote highlights the family’s long-standing association with India’s capital markets. The listing of Jio Platforms represents yet another chapter in the growth story of Reliance.

Isha also touched upon the financial success Jio has achieved since its inception, citing the company’s annual revenue and earnings to illustrate the rapid pace at which the business has expanded. “This year, Jio has generated a revenue of approximately $15.5 billion and actual earnings of nearly $8 billion. Very few companies globally have achieved such a feat—and that too, within just 10 years. But behind every statistic is a customer. And to every customer, I would say this: You built Jio. You embraced it.” ‘I am so proud’: Isha praises her brother Akash.

Isha paid a heartfelt tribute to her brother, Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio. She lauded the hard work and dedication Akash has invested in the company’s growth over the past few years.

She remarked, “Akash, throughout this 13-year journey, I don’t think you’ve ever returned home before midnight. I am so proud to be your sister.”

This personal message offers a glimpse into the immense hard work that fueled Jio’s expansion. Both siblings acknowledged the level of dedication required to build and scale the business.

Anant Ambani describes Jio’s listing as a ‘moment of gratitude.’

Anant Ambani, Executive Director of Reliance Industries Limited, began his address by thanking those whose trust and support have brought Jio to this milestone.

He stated, “I want to begin with the most important word for today: ‘gratitude.’ Thank you to the millions of people who placed their trust in Jio and made this day possible.”

He viewed the stock exchange ceremony through a spiritual lens, likening the company’s public listing to the distribution of ‘prasad’ (a sacred offering) in Indian tradition.

He said, “To me, the ringing of the bell at the exchange is like the ringing of a temple bell—because, for me, business is a form of worship, and every act of worship concludes with the distribution of ‘prasad.’ ‘Prasad’ is always meant to be shared. Today, Jio is being shared with all of India.” It is clear from these points that this listing is not merely a corporate achievement; it is also an opportunity for the general public to become a part of the next phase of Jio’s growth.

Anant also emphasized the unity among the three siblings and their shared responsibility to carry forward the family’s dreams.

He stated, “Today, Isha, Akash, and I stand before you as three separate individuals, yet we share a single soul. We are united by one common resolve—to fulfill these dreams.”

Anant Ambani asserts that the core values of Reliance will always remain constant.

Concluding his speech, Anant paid tribute to the generations of the Ambani family whose aspirations and guidance have shaped the business philosophy of Reliance. “Reliance will continue to dream new dreams, but its roots will remain unchanged—anchored by my grandfather’s vision, my grandmother’s blessings, my father’s guidance, and the values of humility and compassion instilled in us by my mother,” he said.
