New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday seized a black Mercedes Benz, allegedly used by arrested Mumbai police officer Sachin Vaze after searching his office. The investigating agency also recovered the license plate of the stolen Scorpio SUV, which was planted in front of industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s Antilia home in Mumbai with jelly and a threatening note 20 times. NIA Inspector General Anil Shukla said that Vaze drove this car and they were determining the ownership of the high-end vehicle.
The Mercedes car was seized in a parking lot near the CSMT station. The NIA also recovered Rs 5 lakh in cash, a bill counting machine and some clothes from the car.
Waze is at the center of the investigation by the National Investigation Agency in the case of the recovery of a van with explosives near the home of industrialist Mukesh Ambani. He was arrested by the NIA for possessing explosives in a van near Antilia.
Meanwhile, a court rejected Vaze’s statement on the grounds that the agency’s arrest was illegal.
Waze, who was arrested on 13 March for his alleged role in the crime, was recently linked to the Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU) of the city’s criminal branch.
The office is located in the premises of the Police Commissioner’s Office in South Mumbai. An agency official said the NIA team recovered some “secret” documents and electronic evidence, such as laptops, iPads and mobile phones, from Vaze’s office.
