According to Health Department data, 613 recoveries and one death were recorded in the last 24 hours in the national capital.
The national capital Delhi on Sunday reported 823 new cases of coronovirus disease (Covid-19) in a span of 24 hours, according to data from the Health Department. This is the second time in two days that Delhi’s Covid-19 daily tally has been over 800.
After today’s spike, the total case tally reached 6,47,984.
It also recorded 613 recoveries and one death during the said period, which further shows that the total recovery increased to 6,33,410 and the death toll to 10,956 respectively.
Delhi reported 800 Covid-19 cases for the first time this year on Saturday, as the positivity rate dropped by 1 percent after two months.
The increase has especially intensified since Monday 15 March, when the city saw 368 cases. The trend is similar in many other states, especially Maharashtra, Punjab and Haryana, with a similar increase of infection. Overall, the weekly average of new cases a day across India has risen from around 23,500 on March 15 to over 31,600 on March 19.
Central government officials have attributed the rise in the transition to the wedding season in recent times.
Meanwhile, more than 46,000 beneficiaries received shots of the Covid-19 vaccine on Saturday in the national capital, officials said.
A senior official said that at the age of 45-59, 4,794 beneficiaries received shots, while 22,376 seniors also received their first jabs.
Addressing a virtual press conference, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday acknowledged the rise in cases of coronovirus in the national capital over the last few days, but said that it was not a concern, even as he did in Delhi The announced capacity of vaccination per day will be increased from 30,000-40,000 to 1.25 lakh.
