Ruchika Singh, who faced criticism after using abusive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a protest against the NEET paper leak organized by the ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ (CJP) at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on July 23, issued a public apology on Friday. Her apology was shared on social media.
The young woman explained that she was influenced by others who were using abusive language against PM Modi and, consequently, used similar abusive words against the Prime Minister herself.
In the video, Ruchika said, “I had gone to Connaught Place with my friends, where a protest was taking place. Several groups there were using abusive language against Prime Minister Modi. I was influenced by them and said several inappropriate things. I am only 15 years old. What I did is inexcusable.”
She further added, “This is my first and last mistake, and in the future, I will never say or post anything of this nature. I sincerely apologize to the entire nation. I feel deeply ashamed and cannot even bring myself to look up. I apologize to everyone. Please forgive me.”
PM Modi’s reaction: This video surfaced shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a statement regarding the incident involving the abusive language. He decided to publicly forgive the students involved and urged society to guide them onto the right path and help reform them, rather than subjecting them to harsh punishment.
Legal action: Despite the apology, the legal process is underway. The Noida Police have registered a ‘Zero FIR’ under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on charges of spreading hatred and insulting a constitutional office; the case has been handed over to the Delhi Police for investigation.
