Fit India Cyclothon receives widespread support, 1.3 M people took part in the first week

New Delhi: Second Fit India Cyclothon is receiving widespread support from across the country. Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju recently launched it through social media. The mega cycling event started on December 7, 2020, and participants from different parts of the country are participating in it. By December 15, 2020, a total of 12,69,695 people participated and completed 57,51,874 kilometers of cycling. Of the total participants, 3,11,458 participants were associated with Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) and 4,14,354 participants were from the National Service Scheme (NSS) while there were 5,43,883 other participants. Fit India Cyclothon is also getting good support on social media. Along with the general public, celebrities are also posting pictures and videos related to cycling on social media.

The event will continue till December 31, 2020. Citizens can participate in the event by registering on the website of Fit India (https://fitindia.gov.in/fit-india-cyclothon-2020/), and voluntarily decide the distance traveled by bicycle and the pictures attached to it. The video can be posted on social media with @FitIndiaOff’s Twitter handle and hashtags #FitIndiaCyclothon and #NewIndiaFitIndia.

Encouraging citizens to participate in this mega event, Mr. Rijiju recently said in a tweet that “Cycling is a good way to stay healthy and reduce carbon footprint.” I invite all of you to participate in the Second Fit India Cyclothon held between 7 to 31 December. Be a part of it with your friends and family. Let us be a part of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s call for a ‘Dose of fitness, half an hour daily‘.

The initial version of the Fit India Cyclothon was launched by the Sports Minister in January 2020 in Panaji, Goa. The purpose of organizing this event was to make the people of the country participate in outdoor activities and promote the use of bicycles across the country. It was attended by more than 3.5 million participants from across the country.
