ASI again seeks more time to submit a scientific survey report on Gyanvapi

On Tuesday, the ASI sought an extension of three weeks, saying it needed more time to assimilate the information prepared by various experts, counsel for the Hindu side Madan Yadav said.

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on Tuesday sought three more weeks’ time from the district court here to submit the scientific survey report of the Gyanvapi Masjid complex. The court will hear this petition on Wednesday.

The Varanasi district court had asked the ASI to submit the report on the Gyanvapi Masjid complex by November 28.

On Tuesday, the ASI sought an extension of three weeks, saying it needed more time to assimilate the information prepared by various experts, counsel for the Hindu side Madan Mohan Yadav said.

ASI in its application said that its experts are working on various types of data collected by archaeologists, surveyors and other experts etc.

Yadav said, “Assimilation of information prepared by various experts and various instruments is a difficult and slow process and it will take some more time to finally submit the report. Therefore, the court is requested to give time to the ASI to submit it.” Three more weeks’ time should be given for this.” Said quoting ASI’s application.

He said that the court has fixed November 29 for hearing on the application for extension of time.

The ASI has been conducting surveys in the barricaded area, except the sealed portion of the Gyanvapi Masjid complex, since August 4, following court orders.

A petition sought a scientific survey of the Gyanvapi complex, located next to the Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi, to determine whether the 17th-century mosque was built on a pre-existing structure of a Hindu temple.
