Vaishno Devi Stampede: The stampede took place when a huge crowd of devotees, who had come to pay their respects on the occasion of the beginning of the new year, gathered at the Vaishno Devi Bhawan.
Twelve people were killed, while more than 14 were injured in a stampede at Mata Vaishno Devi temple in Jammu and Kashmir.

Officials said today that the stampede was caused by a huge crowd of devotees. A minister in his office said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is “personally monitoring and keeping track” of the tragic situation.
Additional Director General of Police or ADGP Mukesh Singh confirmed that 12 pilgrims were killed and at least 14 injured in the stampede. “All the injured have been taken to the hospital,” he said.

The incident took place outside the sanctum sanctorum of the temple situated on the Trikuta hills. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said that a high-level inquiry has been ordered into the stampede.

Police said rescue operations were launched immediately and all the injured were taken to hospitals, where the condition of some was stated to be “critical”.
