Bihar Edu Min Mevalal Chaudhary resigns amid allegations of corruption

Patna: Bihar Education Minister Mevalal Chaudhary on Thursday resigned from the post amid allegations of corruption against him. Minister of State Ashok Chaudhary has been given additional charge of the Education Department. Chaudhary was allegedly facing corruption charges in the recruitment of assistant professors and scientists during his tenure as vice-chancellor at Bihar Agricultural University.

Mevalal spoke on the allegations leveled against him, saying, “The charge is proved only when the charge sheet is filed or the court orders and neither of them has been able to prove the charge against me.”

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was attacked by opposition parties for appointing Mevalal Chaudhary as education minister, even though he faced corruption charges, and was also suspended from the party over the issue. Opposition parties had demanded his sacking.

However, Mevalal has called the allegations against him completely baseless. Said there is no charge sheet on me. He said that those who held me responsible for the wife’s death would sue them for defamation. I am making a defamation case of Rs 50 crore against the IPS officer who has made these allegations. There is no fact against me.

Let me tell you that the Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav is continuously raising corruption charges against Mevalal. Even today, he has attacked this issue by tweeting. He wrote in his tweet, “What education do Biharis get by making Chief Minister Nitish Kumar an accused in various cases of murder and corruption under section 409, 420, 467, 468, 471 and 120 of the IPC?
