Bomb threat mails to Delhi-NCR schools came from Russia

New Delhi: A bomb threat was sent from Russia via email to schools in Delhi-NCR on Wednesday morning, as indicated by the IP address of the email, which was found on the domain “mail.ru”.

Panic spread among parents and students after more than 60 schools in the national capital and Noida received bomb threat mails.

While some principals claim that it is a spam mail sent by disgruntled members of a parent group possibly frustrated with unresolved issues in the school’s functioning, they argue that such fake bomb threats have become widespread in the past few months. Due to which school timings are being disrupted and chaos is being created.

Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena said Delhi Police has traced the source of bomb threat emails that were sent to several schools in Delhi-NCR on Wednesday, and assured that the culprits will be punished severely. Officials said the bomb threat appeared to be a hoax and there was no need to panic.

Saxena visited the DAV School in Model Town area, where the bomb threat was also received.

The LG said Delhi Police immediately responded to the bomb scare and initiated action after cordoning off and searching the premises with bomb disposal teams and dog squads.

He said in the school, Delhi is fully alert to prevent any untoward incident.

He said, “Delhi Police has found out where these emails are coming from. Investigation is going on. All I will say is that the culprits will not be spared and will be given strict punishment for disrupting peace and harmony.”
