EAM S Jaishankar and others pay respect to former foreign minister Sushma Swaraj on her death anniversary

“Fondly remember Sushma Swaraj ji on the anniversary of her passing away. In our thoughts, so many times in so many ways,” EAM S Jaishankar wrote on Twitter and shared a heartwarming picture.

Several Union ministers, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Assam chief Himanta Biswa Sarma among others on Saturday paid tributes to former Union minister Sushma Swaraj on her death anniversary.

Sushma Swaraj, a prominent face of the Bharatiya Janata Party, passed away on August 6, 2019 at the age of 67.

Union Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya tweeted, “Heartfelt tributes to Sushma Swaraj ji on her death anniversary. An exceptional speaker, shrewd leader and able administrator, Sushma ji’s contribution to public life will always be remembered.”

Swaraj, who died of cardiac arrest, was universally respected and was known to come to the aid of Indians across the world. The 67-year-old politician, who served as the foreign minister in the first Modi government, was given the moniker India’s ‘Supermom’ by The Washington Post.

External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar tweeted: “Remembering Sushma Swaraj ji with love on her death anniversary. In our thoughts, many times in so many ways.”

She was one of several First Ladys during her illustrious career – the youngest cabinet minister in Haryana, the first woman chief minister of Delhi (and the BJP), the first woman spokesperson of a national party.

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal tweeted, “Tributes to the eminent leader, statesman, outstanding parliamentarian, our guide, dear Sushma Swaraj ji on her death anniversary.”

Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur also paid tribute to the former Union Minister.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal wrote on Twitter, “My heartfelt tributes to former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj ji on her death anniversary. She will always live in our hearts as a compassionate leader who served the nation with utmost commitment and devotion. ” ,

“Mrs. Sushma Swaraj ji was a great statesman, a vibrant leader and an impeccable orator. She has left behind a lasting legacy. Her illustrious career is an inspiration to us. Today, on the occasion of her death anniversary, I remember her and mine Pay tributes,” said Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan called Sushma Swaraj “a symbol of unwavering commitment to public service”.

He tweeted, “A BJP stalwart and a statesman, she set high standards in her every endeavor. I have always been a beneficiary of her guidance. Remembering elder sister Sushma ji on her death anniversary.”

A law graduate who practiced in the Supreme Court, Swaraj was elected seven times as a Member of Parliament and thrice as a member of various legislatures such as Haryana and Delhi. Like many others in the BJP, his political career began with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the student wing of the RSS.

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said, “My tributes to one of the popular and admired leaders of India, Smt. Sushma Swaraj ji on her death anniversary.”

Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju said Swaraj was “one of the finest leaders our country has ever produced”.

Apart from him, the Chief Ministers of several states also remembered Swaraj on her death anniversary.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant tweeted, “Humble tribute to an exceptional speaker, committed and compassionate leader Smt. Sushma Swaraj ji on her death anniversary.”

Remembering Sushma Swaraj, Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu tweeted, “A prolific orator, an exemplary parliamentarian, a compassionate human being who devoted his entire life to public service and protecting India’s interests. On her death anniversary , I remember former External Affairs Minister Sushma. Swaraj ji.”

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said Sushma Swaraj was “one of India’s finest parliamentarians and orators”.

He wrote, “She served people in various roles ranging from a lawyer to a minister in Haryana, CM of Delhi, leader of the opposition and a cabinet minister in the central government. My tributes to her on death anniversary.”

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, “Tributes to former Delhi CM Smt. Sushma Swaraj ji on her death anniversary.”
