New Delhi: The University Grants Commission has brought all higher education institutions on a single platform by amending the Academic Bank of Credit (ABC) regulation.

From now on, all universities, colleges and autonomous educational institutions, regardless of their National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings, can participate in the ABC system.

Earlier, only educational institutions with an A grade by NAAC or higher were eligible to join the ABC platform.

Academic Bank of Credits system will help students to switch between institutions and programs.

Under this system, the student will open a unique academic bank account in digital form; And the account holder will be provided with a unique ID and access to Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). The UGC notification mentioned, “It is felt that the Universities and Autonomous Colleges satisfy sub-regulation (2) of the Regulation declared by the Government of India and Institution of National Importance and in particular notwithstanding their NAAC or NIRF, Grants are empowered by an Act of Parliament to confer degrees. The ranking should be able to be registered with the Academic Bank of Credits.”
