Former UP CM Kalyan Singh passes away, PM Modi tweeted tribute

Lucknow, 21 August 2021: Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister (CM) Kalyan Singh breathed his last on Saturday, August 21. He was 89, and was undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit of the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) in Lucknow since July 4.

Paying tribute to the leader, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “Generations to come will always be grateful to Kalyan Singh ji.”

The hospital said in a statement that the cause of his death was sepsis and multi-organ failure.

“Kalyan Singh, former CM of Uttar Pradesh and former Governor of Rajasthan passed away due to sepsis and multi organ failure at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI), Lucknow.”-

Born in 1932 in Atrauli, a small town 25 km from Aligarh, UP; Kalyan Singh served several times as MLA from Atrauli. During his political career, he also served two terms as the Chief Minister of his state, and was also appointed the Governor of Rajasthan.

PM Modi, in a series of tweets, condoled the demise of the BJP leader and wrote:

“Kalyan Singh ji gave voice to crores of people belonging to the underprivileged sections of the society. He made many efforts towards the empowerment of farmers, youth and women.
