Here’s why Adi Shankaracharya known as Jagatguru Shankaracharya; religious leader and philosopher of India

Adi Shankaracharya Jayanti 2022: May 6 is the 1234th birth anniversary of Adi Shankaracharya. Adi Shankaracharya, also known as Jagatguru Shankaracharya, is one of the important religious leaders and philosophers of India. Adi Shankaracharya Jayanti is celebrated every year by his devotees during the Shukla Paksha Panchami Tithi of Vaishakh or the fifth day of the full moon lunar fortnight.

Adi Shankaracharya was born during 788 CE in Kalady, Kerala. From the age of 16-32, Shankaracharya traveled across the country and spread the message of the Vedas. The saint passed away at a young age, but his teachings continued to inspire people from generation to generation.

The saint’s birth anniversary is celebrated annually during the Panchami Tithi during the Shukla Paksha of Vaishakh month and currently falls between April and May. The Hindu saint is known to have strengthened the doctrine of Advaita Vedanta and revived it at a time when Hindu culture was facing decline. It is said that the works of Adi Shankara, along with other Hindu sages such as Madhava and Ramanuja, played an important role in the revival of Hinduism.

The three teachers formed the principles that are still followed today by their respective sects. He is remembered as some of the most important figures in the modern history of Hindu philosophy.

Notable works of Adi Shankaracharya include many commentaries on Hindu scriptures including the Bhagavad Gita and the 12 Upanishads. The Hindu monk composed about 72 devotional hymns such as Sivananda Lahiri, Nirvana Shatakam, Manisha Panchakam and Soundarya Lahiri.
