How Ganesh ji defeat brother Kartikeya, mythological story related to offering Arghya to the moon on Sakat Chauth

Sakat Chauth 2022: According to the Hindu calendar, every year on the Chaturthi date of the Krishna Paksha of Magha month, mothers observe a fast of Sankashti Chauth for the long life and happy life of their children. This date is known as Sankat Chauth, Maghi Chaturthi, Sankashti Chaturthi, Til Chauth etc. On this day Lord Ganesha is worshiped by law. At the same time, after offering Arghya to the moon, the fast is completed.

The competition between Ganeshi ji and Kartikeya was the goal of completing the circumambulation of the earth first.

Sakat Chauth is being celebrated on 21st January. On this day, mothers keep a Nirjala fast for the long life and happy life of their children. According to classical beliefs, mothers especially worship Lord Vigneshwar for the long life, health, happiness and prosperity of their children. On this day Lord Ganesha is worshiped by law. At the same time, after offering Arghya to the moon, the fast is completed.

It is mentioned in the Puranas that once the deity was surrounded by many calamities. Then he came to Lord Shiva to ask for help. At that time Kartikeya and Ganesh ji were also sitting with Lord Shiva. Hearing the words of the deities, Shiva asked Kartikeya and Ganesh ji, who among you can remove the sufferings of the gods. Then both Kartikeya and Ganesh ji declared themselves capable for this task.

Ganesh Ji

On this, Lord Shiva took the test of both of them and said that the first of you two who come round the earth, he will go to help the gods. On hearing this word from the mouth of Lord Shiva, Kartikeya went out to circumambulate the earth by sitting on his vehicle peacock, but Ganesha got into the thought that if he would climb the mouse and circumambulate the whole earth, it would take him a lot of time. .

Then he got a solution. Ganesh ji got up from his place and sat back after circumambulating his parents seven times. On returning after circumambulating, Kartikeya started calling himself the winner. Then Shiva asked Lord Ganesha the reason for not revolving around the earth. Then Ganesh ji said that ‘all the worlds are at the feet of the parents.’ Hearing this, Lord Shiva ordered Ganesh ji to remove the troubles of the gods.

Kartikeya

In this way, Lord Shiva blessed Ganesha that the one who worships you on the day of Chaturthi and offers Arghya to the moon in the night, his three heats i.e. physical heat, divine heat and material heat will be removed. By observing this fast, all kinds of sorrows of the fasting person will be removed and he will get material pleasures of life. Human happiness and prosperity will increase from all sides. There will be no dearth of sons and grandsons, wealth and opulence. Jyotishacharya Dr. Vinod further told that by fasting Lord Ganesha on the day of Sankashti Chaturthi, every wish of a person is fulfilled. It is believed that listening to its story on the day of Sankashti Chaturthi brings blessings of Ganapati.
